Embezzlement can be a federal crime. Toys”R” Us logistics director Daniel Chon was arrested in his home on March 22 for allegedly stealing almost $2 million from Toys”R”Us.

Authorities claim Chon was receiving the funds using a scheme that allowed him to use the companies fleet cards with eCash and then withdraw the funds from an ATM.  In all, he was able to withdraw $1.91 million. Chon was able to approve all payments as the logistics director.

Additionally, Chon was caught on camera withdrawing the cash from ATM’s in the U.S and Europe. He also stored $405,000 and $216,000 into checking accounts that require only his signature. The fleet cards have a feature that enables a user to make money transactions at an ATM.

On March 23 Chon was released on a $500,000 bond for the fraud scheme. Now, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York is investigating the felony.
