NJ Transit Uses GPS Tracking to Weed out Waste, Fraud, and Abuse

new jersey transit gps trackingTen New Jersey Transit employees, including three who were fired, have been disciplined after GPS tracking discovered fraud, abuse, and waste.

NJ Transit has outfitted 480 vehicles with GPS systems. NJ Transit spokesman, John Durso Jr., says of the measure, “This was a proactive, cost-savings initiative taken by NJ Transit,” and confirmed the disciplinary action against the employees.

About six months after installing GPS, Durso said the agency has already seen a steep decrease in vehicle usage including a “40 percent drop in hours used, and a 31 percent drop in gallons of fuel used.”
