Lundberg Says Gas Prices Topped $4 Gallon

The average price for a gallon of regular gas in the US is $3.96, according to the AAA Fuel Gauge Report. According to the Lundberg Survey, published this weekend, the average price for a gallon of regular gas topped the $4 mark.  In July 2008, gas reached a record high price of $4.11. Lundberg says gas prices may have already peaked this season and predicts prices will fluctuate over the next few weeks.

Oil prices have been fluctuating over the last couple weeks. As the dollar gets weakened, and the violence in the Middle East continues, it is likely that oil prices will remain high. No one is really sure what effects the death of Osama bin Laden will have on gas prices.

The city with the highest average price in the latest survey was Chicago, at $4.50 a gallon. The lowest was Tucson, Arizona, at $3.62.

Average gas prices across the US:

— Newark, New Jersey, $3.87

— Boston, Massachusetts, $4.04

— Baltimore, Maryland $3.97

— Atlanta, Georgia, $3,.93

— Birmingham, Alabama, $3.74

— Salt Lake City, Utah, $3.69

— Seattle, Washington, $4.04

— Los Angeles, California, $4.26
