GPS Tracking Leads to Robbery Suspect

A dummy cellphone equipped with a GPS tracking system lead police to four robbery suspects accused of holding up an AT&T store.

The four suspects, who brandished guns during the robbery, left the store with $23,000 worth of cellphones. What they didn’t know, however, was that one of those cell phones  was designed to trigger GPS tracking once outside of the store.

“The GPS tracking company notified Fayette County 911, who reported the exact location of the suspects and the cell phones to the responding officers,” said Lt. Mark Brown.

Two of the suspects were charged with armed robbery, another faces additional charges related to making false statements, and the fourth suspect also faces two counts of kidnapping.
