Dubai Fleet Adds Lotus Ambulance

Dubai’s police fleet already includes an Aston Martin, Lamborghini, and Bugatti. Now, paramedics can fulfill their need for speed as well with two Ford Mustangs and a Lotus.

The Lotus Evora, dubbed “First Responder,” was on public display this week at the Dubai World Trade Center. Although it can’t transport patients, the sports car is stocked surprisingly well. Paramedic Zaid Al Mamari with the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services says the vehicle “can handle all kinds of emergencies,” and is “fitted with a responder bag, suction unit, foam splints for fractures, cardiac defibrillators and oxygen bags.” It also has a mobile data terminal allowing paramedics to forward patient data to the hospital prior to the patient arriving.

Paramedics will undergo special training to learn how to drive and handle the expensive, and fast, car. The Lotus, which can exceed 160 mph, will help paramedics achieve a quicker response time. Currently, it takes an average of 8 minutes to reach the patient. The Lotus isn’t an active member of the fleet just yet, though. “We will initially showcase the car in tourists places like the Jumeirah Beach Residences and Burj Khalifa. The second step is to start using them,” said Al Mamari.
