DHL, a global leader in logistics, is launching a green fleet of commercial delivery vehicles in Manhattan this year to help reduce its impact on the city’s environment. DHL’s all-new green fleet of commercial vehicles will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 50 percent each year in comparison to conventional vehicles, according to DHL’s website.

“As customers worldwide are increasingly demanding greener logistics, sustainable business procedures and initiatives like the one we are launching today will – at the same time – also enhance the profitability of our business,” said Frank Appel, CEO of Deutsche Post DHL.

The environmentally-friendly vehicles are part of  DHL’s  Green Fleet strategy, which aims at improving the company’s carbon efficiency worldwide by 30 percent by 2020. DHL’s Green Fleet Strategy also aims at adding fuel-efficient, hybrid, electric or aerodynamically modified vehicles to its fleet worldwide.

DHL plans to have 80 vehicles total in the NYC Green Fleet. The company is expected to have 30 American-made, battery-powered electric vans and 50 hybrid trucks operating in Manhattan by September 2011.

DHL is a leader in Green Fleet Management. Sustainability and reduction in fleet emissions is a core part of the company’s strategy.
