California Black Bears Latest Wildlife to get GPS Collars

Black bears in Yosemite National Park are the latest wildlife to be outfitted with GPS collars, a move park officials hope will help them gain more insight into the bears’ lives.

Wildlife managers will be able to track the animals’ movements, even in the most remote areas, through the GPS tracking equipment according to Park Ranger Scott Gediman. Information gathered from the collars will make it easier to keep people safe and ensure the bears remain wild, according to Park Superintendent Don Neubacher.

The collars were funded by a donation of $70,000 from the Yosemite Conservancy.
